On May 24, 1912, in the oswego Community of Sumter County, rosa Lee McNeil was born to the late James and Josephine Wilson Martin. She was reared in a Christian home with support of a loving family. As a child she joined Clarks U.M.C. and attended the public schools of Sumter County. Rosa met and married the late Carlie Reese. From this union five children were born. In 1948 rosa moved to Baltimore, there she met and married the late Walter McNeil. She was employed by Sears and Roebuck Company and the Baltimore County Public School System until retirement. She joined John Westley United Methodist Church in 1951 under the pastorate of the late Rev. Frank Frye. Rosa was an active member and served God with the gift of song as a member of the Methodist Chorus formally the Hutson Chorus and Senior Chior. She also served on the Adult Fellowship and Ami High organizations. Rosa was lovingly called, "Bookie,"Mama," "Aunt Rose," and "Mama Rose" by family and friends. She was a friendly, helpful and jovial person who enjoyed entertaining, traveling abroad and celebrations with ffamily and friends. She was also known for making some of the best macaroni and cheese and wearing her fancy hats. Rosa enjoyed praising her God and would sometimes be heard singing her favorite hymn "He Understands He'll Say Well Done!" Everytime the spirit moved upon her she would shout out in praise "How sweet it is !"" God blessed our Rosa with longevity. She lived to tbe ninety-six years old. God called her to eternal rest on Monday August 11, 2008. She leaves to cherish fond memories; her daughter, Ruth Brown four of her children preceded her in death-Frances, Carlie, Noami and Sarah; twenty-six grandchildren, forty-five greatgrandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Annie Mae Durham; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
