She was born Rosalie Irene Kess on
April 27, 1938 to the late Blanche R. Kess and William A. Fisher.
Rosalie was educated in the Anne Arundel County School System.
She graduated Bates High School in 1955 and then went on to Cortez
Peters Business School to study to become a secretary. In 1959
when the family was considering buying a new home, Rosalie
volunteered to make the mortgage payments. This commitment to
family would be a tenet she would follow the rest of her life.
As a member of Hall United Methodist Church, Rosalie accepted
God early in life. She later joined John Wesley U.M.C. where she
was a long-time member of the United Methodist Women, an Usher
and later a communion steward. She married George E. Gaither, Jr.
on September 21, 1963 and together they had one son, George
Emory Gaither, III.
A civil servant for over 35 years, Rosalie first worked for the State
of Maryland at Patuxtent Institute, then the Department of Army and
finally the National Security Agency where she retired in 1995.
Wanting to set a good example for her son, Rosalie never forgot the
importance of education earning a Bachelor of Arts from University
of Maryland and Masters of Management from College of Notre
Dame of MD.
An accomplished cook and gracious hostess, Rosalie loved to sur-
prise her guests with fancy dishes and special treats like homemade
ice cream. But even her simple dishes, like her famous turkey salad,
would leave friends and family always wanting more.
Rosalie had many hobbies like reading, crossword puzzles and
collecting Lladro figurines and Black Santa Claus dolls. She was an
active member of the Charitable Busy Bees, Silhouettes of Annapo-
lis Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi and Toastmasters Interna-
tional. She was also very artistic in nature. Brass rubbings, oil
painting, and water colors were just some of the mediums she chose
to express herself. She also loved to shop; it was often said if
shopping was an Olympic event, she'd win the gold medal.
An avid traveler, Rosalie has literally travelled the world. First
across Europe in the early 1970's and later in life she traveled with
good friends to places like the Caribbean, Australia, Panama
Canal, Hawaii and New Zealand. In addition, summer trips to
vacation spots like Martha's Vineyard and North Carolina's Outer
Banks were quite common.
Besides her parents, Rosalie was preceded in death by her Brother
William Ralph Kess (known as Pee Wee) and beloved Aunt,
Corine Kess. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted
husband George; loving son Emory; daughter-in-law Marchena
Gaither; sister Patricia Henson; brother-n-law Walter Henson, Sr.;
sister-in-Iaws, Yvonne Gaither and Barbara Jean Jenkins and a
host of other relatives and friends.
