Born in Baltimore, Maryland on May 20, 1933, Rose Elizabeth Grimes Martin was the fifth of nine children of the late Hiram and Florence O. Grimes. Rose was educated in the Baltimore City Public Schools. She held various jobs throughout her young adulthood. She became employed at Advertising Distributors of Maryland now Harte-Hanks Co. in the late 1960's and remind there until she retired in 1991 to care for her ailing mother, Florence, until her death in 1995. Rose raised seven children nearly single-handedly. She was preceded in death by her eldest daughter, Rose Naomi Winmond. In 1996, Rose married James Isaiah Martin, Sr. known affectionately as Buster and addded seven more children to her family. Rose was a creative and talented woman. She loved to sing to the glory of God and to cook great meals. She loved flowers and gardening, arts & crafts, traveling, shopping and decorating her home. Later in life she learned to use a computer and enjoyed playing games on it. She was an avid jigsaw puzzle solver. Rose was a long-time member of Ebenezer AME Church. She loved and served her church well! She was a Trustee Emeritus and a member of the following auxiliaries: both the Senior and Gospel choires, the Flower Circle, the Matilda Monroe Missionary Society, the Sunday School, the Lay Organization and the Precious Gems. She was also a member of the Florence Johnson Guild. Left to cherish her memory are: her husband, James ''Buster'' Martin; children, Delmar Grimes, Charlyene Grimes, Wanda Grimes, Gerald Grimes wife Antionette, Cheryl Robinson husband Linus and Charles E. Fields; twelve grandchildren. Timothy McCauley wife Pamela, Tia Grimes, Rodney Winmond wife Teara, Malcolm Grimes, Rosemary Robinson, Toya Grimes,Delmar Grimes II, Jordan Grimes, Omar Grimes, Dimonique Robinson, Lorraine Grimes and Azure Grimes; seven great-grandchildren, Kiera Lewis, Patrick McCauley, Jade Winmond, Gregory Hudgins III, Tiffany McCauley, Reese Winmond and Logan Winmond and Logan Winmond. She also leaves to mourn: the Martin children, Patricia Garrett, Mary Bolen husband Van, James wife Deborah, Ronald, Ralph wife Gloria, Mark and Aaron wife Valencia Martin; two sisters, Doris Salliey and Florence McCray; two brothers, Hiram Grimes, Jr. and Lawrence Grimes; three special nieces, Valerie, Tanya and Rosa; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and a host of other relatives and friends.
