ROSS HOWARD SYE SR. entered this life on September 2, 1918. He was the only son of Paul and Bessie Sye. He had two sisters, Beulah and Myrtle who preceded him in death. Ross was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. He graduated from Frederick Douglass High School at the age of sixteen. He attended and graduated from Morgan State College. He held various forms of employment. He was an Insurance Agent at Southern Life Insurance Company for eighteen years. While working at Southern Life Insurance Company, he went back to Morgan to take evening classes for three years. He also had a part-time job as a Real Estate Agent. His final employment endeavor was with the Federal Government at the Social Security Administration. He worked in many capacities, Department of Health, Education, and Welfare Disability Operations Division, a processing Supervisor Lead Case Analyst. He received numerous awards such as: Associate Commissioner's Citation, High Quality Award exceeding production, High Quality Increase exceeding activities of Technical Assistance, Associate Congressional Award Aftermath of Performance Rendered and many more during his twenty-eight years tenure. He retired from the Social Security Administration. Among his outstanding performances during his occupational arena, Ross served our country in the United States Army for four years. He received an Honorable Discharge. Along with serving his country, he also served his community encouraging and assisting African Americans to become home owners. Ross Howard Sye Sr. was recognized as a crusader for equality and social change for the African American people by Kim McCoy. Ross married the late Delores Briscoe on November 7, 1938. From this union ten children were birthed, and an extension of this blessed union was twenty-eight grandchildren, forty-four great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great-grandchildren. Ross and Delores were married for fifty-eight years. Delores departed this life on July 27, 1997. Rose was preceded in death by three children, Beverly Ransome, Ross Howard Sye Jr. and Paul Sye; five grandchildren, Jeffery Ransome, James Stevenson Jr., Don Glenn, Tonya Jones and Robert Jones Jr.; son-in-law, Oscar Cromer; and daughter-in-law, Joyce Sye. Ross remarried the late Doris Cook who preceded him in death. He had two stepchildren from this marriage. He leaves to cherish his memory: seven children, Zelda Cromer, Tessa Glenn, Carol Jones, Kathy Love, Ursula Williams, Vanessa Sye and Adrienne Williams; four sons-in-law, Robert Jones Sr., Terry Love Sr., Robert Williams Jr. and Alvin Williams Sr.; brother-in-law, Donald Cook; twenty-three grandchildren, forty-four greatgrandchildren and fourteen great-great-grandchildren; also two granddaughters-in-law, two grandsons-in-law, two great-grandsons-in-law, and a host of other relatives and friends.
