Ruby Mae Howell
was born on October 30, 1927 in Macon, North
Carolina to the late Cephas and Nora Belle Hawkins. She was the third
oldest of eight children. Ruby entered eternal rest on February 20, 2017 at
Future Care (Homewood).
Ruby was baptized and accepted the LORD at an early age. She attended the
Pine Grove Baptist Church in Macon, NC with her family. She later contin-
ued to worship GOD at Central Baptist Church in Baltimore, MD.
Ruby was a loving, caring and always went out of her way to help others.
She received her education in the North Carolina School System. Ruby
always enjoyed the challenge of solving difficult cross-word puzzles.
She married the love of her life, the late Henry Howell in 1957_
Ruby was affectionately known to family and friend as "Mama". Also, all
her neighbors from Hollins St. to her last stop on Arunah A ve_ would swiftly
make friend with her and quickly started to called her Mama as well. Mama
opened her home to everyone who needed a place to stay. At one particular
point during some challenging days, there were up to four different families
residing under her roof. She did not turn anyone away, because her heart was
full of Christ and love.
During her journey here on earth she worked extremely hard and made many
sacrifices for her children and others. She was a wonderful mother, grand-
mother, sister, aunt, friend and confidant. Ruby was love and respected by
all who had the privilege to have known her. She was truly blessed and
maintained a tight bond with her family.
She leaves to cherish in her memory; two daughters, Gracie Kiah and Ivey
McClendon; three sons, Edgar Howell, Kalwin Howell (Yvonne), Calvin
Howell and a special adopted son, Kevin Samuel (Arlene); one brother,
Cephas Hawkins (Shirley);one sister, Mamie Hawkins; 20 grandchildren,28
great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and family.
Ruby was preceded in death by hers sons Gregory Howell and Clarence
Hawkins and daughter Evelyn Howell.
