Ruby Vernell Lynn, was born September 14,1915 in Richmond, Virginia to the late John Lancaster Sr. and Marthenia Mankins-Lancaster. She departed this life on Thursday, January 1,2015 at the age of 99. She was educated in the Richmond Public School System where she', graduated from Armstrong High School in 1935. After graduating, Ruby attended the Von de Vyer Institute, a Catholic school and business college in Richmond, Virginia. Van de Vyer was the very first predominantly African American institute in the south. She completed her studies and received her diploma in June of 1938. On September 20, 1942 she married the late V(ilbert Lynn Sr. of Clayton, orth Carolina. The couple resided in Baltimore, Maryland where they had one son, Wilbert Lynn Jr. Ruby was a caregiver and homemaker. She worked for the Dukeland Street Nursing Home as a nurse's aide for many years. Ruby also opened her home and cared for many family members. She was most accommodating to her ailing uncle, the late Albert Lancaster who lived to be 102. Ruby was a devote Christian who loved the Lord. She was a faithful member of Whitestone Baptist Church for over fifty years. She was also a member of Whitestone's Flower Circle. In recent years Ruby was unable to attend church service, however, she worshiped the Lord at home. She consistently prayed and faithfully received her monthly communion from Deacon Hughes. Ruby was a selfless person. She was always willing to give her all for her friends and family. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Mr. Wilbert Lynn Jr; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Frada Cunningham-Lynn; two grandchildren, Ms. Jessica Lynn and Mr. Wilbert Lynn III; one great-grandson, Devin Mat- thew Melton; one sister, Mrs. Vivian Curry; many nieces and nephews; along with a host of other relatives and friends.
