Barney
September 23, 1939 – March 5, 2020
Ruth E. Barney (affectionately known as "Nana") daughter of James Floyd
and Thelma Floyd (both preceded her in death) was born on September 23,
1939. Nana went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 5, 2020
after a lengthy illness. She was the oldest of four children, James Floyd (who
preceded her in death), Joyce Wheatley (who preceded her in death), and her
dearest youngest sister, Marlene Payne.
Nana was married to Donald D. Barney (who preceded her in death) and
from this union five beautiful children were born, Marc D. Barney, Donna
P. Barney, Vanessa D. Barney (who preceded her in death), Adorn C.
Barney and Glen D. Barney. She was a virtuous woman dedicated to her
family, she was a great mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, grandmother,
great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother and friend.
Nana received her education in the Baltimore City Public School System.
She graduated from Dunbar High School. She held several jobs over the
years, she worked for Towson University in 1973, she then transferred to the
University of Baltimore in 1983. She started there as a security guard, she
was promoted to the University of Baltimore Police Department as a Com-
munications Operator which she held until her retirement in 2003.
Nana had a special place in her heart for her oldest grandson Kyle who never
left her side, her niece Megan Payne, her three granddaughters, Daja,
Khyliah (whom she called her Angel) and Leiah. Nana enjoyed cooking,
reading, crossword puzzles, television shows (especially her soap operas).
Her favorite pastime of all was washing clothes for the entire household.
N ana leaves to cherish her precious memories: her children, Mark (Roberta),
Donna (Martin), Adorn, Glen (Lashon); her sister, Marlene (Michael) her
dearest and devoted friend, Bernard Corprew; her grandchildren, Klye,
David, Royale, Jeffrey, Jamal, Derrell, Bryson, Braelen; her only grand-
daughter Adorn; 11 great grands, one great great grandson, Zayden and a
host of family and friends.
