Obituary

RUTH ANNETTE HARRIS, affectionately called "Annie" was born May 15, 1950 in Baltimore, Maryland. She was the oldest daughter of the late Glen M. and Lucy M. Ashe. She departed this life on Thursday evening, October 12, 2017 after a brief hospital stay.

She was educated in the Baltimore City Schools System, entering the cosmetology program at Carver Vocational High School where she updated her natural skills at creating hairstyles. As a teenager, those styles were usually tried out on others, even if their parents disagreed strongly.

Ruth's work career started as a nursing assistance instead of in the cosmetology field. She was a certified medical technician at Maryland General Hospital. She then went on to University Hospital as a certified phlebotomist technician in the Green Baum Cancer Center. Ruth transferred to St. Joseph Hospital where she remained until her health failed. She was known as a compassionate and caring patient worker.

In October 1968, she married Lorrin W. Harris and from this union one son, Lorrin W. Harris, Jr. was born. Her son preceded her in death in February 2004 and her husband passed away in 2006.

As a child, Ruth attended the Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, where she was baptized. Realizing in life that what she learned as a child was a commitment to Christ, she re-dedicated her life and asked Pastor Alvin Gwynn Sr. of Friendship Baptist Church to re-baptize her. She was a faithful member and dedicated worker in the Nurses Ministry. Ruth found the embrace of God's love at her church when she lost her only son and her mother within months of each other. When her health failed, she still talked about the only church for her was Friendship Baptist Church.

Ruth was an excellent cook and her potato salad was a "must have" at every family gathering. Annie's smile and laughter was contagious. Her frank and quick wit response could make you laugh until you cried. She will be so missed by her family.

Ruth leaves to cherish her memories her sister: Thelma Y. Ashe; her brother: Roderick C. Ashe (Cynthia); aunts: Joyce B Mills, Patricia A. Jones and Sybil D. Thomas; uncle: Milo G. Martin Jr.; nieces:

Sharnette Ashe, Vonyette Grant (Robert) and Candice Ashe; nephews: Glen M. Ashe III, Reginald Ashe and Roderick Ashe; great nieces, great nephews, many cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.
