Obituary

The season of our beloved, Ruth Simpson, commenced on November 23, 1927, in Concord, North Carolina. She was the first daughter of the late Kattie and Roosevelt Robinson. After a lengthy illness, bringing closure to her triumphant life's journey, Ruth quietly followed God's messenger and walked into enternal life on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at Bon Secour Hospital. After moving to Baltimore, Maryland at a young age, Ruth was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System. She worked for many years at Holiday Inn at several locations and later retired. Through a friend, she met and later married the love of her life, William Gambrill, who preceded her in death. from this union, they never had any children, but she was mother to four nephews, Hampton deceased, Roosevelt, Gilbert and Herbert. She treated them like they were her very own. They knew that when things went wrong or they were wrong they could always come around and count on Aunt Cookie. Her arms were always open to help them out or to anyone else who needed help. No matter the situation, she was mostly soft spoken, yet knew how to get her point across to others. She accepted Christ at an early age. Although she visited many churches, and never settled on one, she remained faithful to the word of God. She loved listening to the word of God and really enjoyed gospel music. Although Cookie endured extraordinary physical setbacks in later life, she was a trooper until health completely failed her, but knew beyond a shadow of doubt to whom she belonged. Ruth "Cookie" impacted the lives of several and has left memories to be cherished by all; Kitty-Poo cat; special nephews, Herbert L. Branch Sandra, Gilbert L. Walker and Roosevelt Robinson Clarestine; one special niece, Hilda Robinson; three brothers, one sister and one nephew preceded her in death and a host of other relatives and friends.
