IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Seretha C.
Monroe
October 31, 1941 – November 10, 2017
Seretha Constella Monroe,
daughter of the late Linwood and
Evelyn Monroe, was born October 31, 1941 in Richmond, Virginia.
She departed this life with her family by her side on
November 10, 2017.
Seretha was baptized in Richmond, V A. After moving to Baltimore,
where she and her sister Linnette resided with Aunt Gladys and
Uncle Warren, she became a member of Emmanuel Christian
Community Church. Later, her spiritual walk led her to Lamb of
Life Baptist Church.
Seretha graduated from Edmondson High School in 1960 and
then attended Baltimore City Community College. She was a
veracious reader and loved nostalgic movies. For more than
40 years, she belonged to a group of close friends that formed
a civic and social club called the X-Ceptions Pleasure Club. They
provided educational activities for children, traveled extensively
local and abroad and held annual Christmas Celebrations. Most
of them still communicate with each other either by phone, visits
and even email.
She was employed at Sinai Hospital as a Unit Clerk from
which she retired after 41 years of service. After retirement,
she relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada to be near her sister.
While there she participated in the Foster Grand-Parents
Program as an adoptive grand-parent to many pre-school children.
Seretha was affectionately known as "Re Re" by her younger
cousins, whom she referred to as her nieces and nephews.
She enjoyed boasting about their accomplishments and showering
them with hugs, kisses and treats.
Upon her return to Baltimore in 2009, she resided at the
Greens Senior Apartments in Catonsville. She was a devoted
member of the bible study group, a member of the Care and
Concern Committee and facilitated a book reading club. Seretha
hosted many Bingo and Po-Ke-No parties with the residents of the
building and close friends.
Whenever guests would visit, she would prepare her famous deli
sandwiches and freshly-prepared gourmet tossed salads.
She leaves to mourn: a devoted daughter Dwyan Monroe,
a loving sister Linnette Shelmire, half-sister Diane Weeks, Aunt
and Uncle Carrie and Simon Robinson, "special" cousins
Vanessa Williams, Brandon Williams, Sr., and Brittany Greene.
Young cousins Amira and Brandon Williams, Jr.,
Jalen McNeil, other cousins, relatives and life-long friends.
