Obituary

Her children arise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her. Proverbs 31

Sheila Denise Sample Holland was born October 1, 1965. She is the daughter of the late Melvin Bell, Jr. and Mary "Blondie" Sample. Sheila is the granddaughter of the late Grady McAllen and Martha Wilson and the great-granddaughter of the late Virginia "Giley" Lee Sample. Sheila gained her heavenly wings after a brief illness in which she fought the good fight on Sunday, September 15, 2024.

Sheila was united in holy matrimony with the love of her life, her high school sweetheart, Kevin. Sheila and Kevin have been married for over 40 years. Sheila's greatest achievement was being the loving, devoted mother of Kevin Jr., Timothy, and Matthew Holland. Sheila also has two grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Sheila's family loving cared for daily needs her during her illness most especially her husband.

Sheila received  her formal education  in  the Baltimore City  Public School System and  graduated  from Southwestern High School. She worked many jobs such as at Caldor's Department Store, Commercial Credit Mtg. Company, USF&G Insurance Company, and the NAACP before opening her own business. Sheila joined and was baptized at New Shiloh Baptist Church under the Pastorate of Dr. Harold Carter, Sr. Sheila really loved her gospel music and played it every morning to her day care children.

Sheila was a very successful entrepreneur. She owned and operated Kidz & Play Child Care for over 30+ years. Sheila was very proud of her business and achieved success in the Excel and Boost programs for Child Care Providers. Sheila would often call her husband "Mr. Kevin" in front of the day care children and he would call her "Ms. Sheila". This became their very unique pet names for each other. Sheila loved babies and helping families, especially her own family. She provided childcare for her sister Sherie's son Marcus; her sister Nina's son Quentin; her sister Susan's grandsons Mason and Jace; her aunt Barbara's grandbaby Amera; her cousin Nikki's daughter Destiny; her cousin Sonia's grandchild; her sister-in-law Angie's grandbaby Dakota; her cousin Shaketta's daughters Alayjah and Shamier; her God-sister Zina's grandson and great-granddaughter.
Sheila had a heart of gold and would help anyone; she supported and donated to Churches, Police and Fire. She was very honest, direct, and straight forward. She would tell you exactly what she thought and how she felt. Sheila and Kevin really, really enjoyed visiting Casino's especially the Horseshoe and Live Casinos. Sheila loved traveling and shopping especially with her sisters. They had a very special relationship and even celebrated her birthday last year dancing on the Spirit Cruise Ship. Sheila, Nina, Sherie, Valerie, Angela, and Susan would go to the same Cabaret every year where Sheila danced the night away. Sheila was an avid Oriole's fan. She was a fan if they were winning or losing. Sheila loved watching Lifetime Movies; however, her favorite movies were Tyler Perry's "Madea", and she had the whole set of Madea plays and movies.

Sheila's earthly body will be greatly missed; however, her spirit and love lives on. Sheila's life and memory will be cherished by her husband Kevin, Sr.; their three sons Kevin Jr., Timothy, and Matthew; grandchildren Timothy(Hailey) and Jayla and great-granddaughter Isabella; two loving sisters Nina (Jamal) and Sherie (Frank); maternal Aunt Joyce Jobes; maternal Uncle Warren Drummond; paternal Aunt De'borah Dent; bonus siblings Susan Williams, Gary Williams, Talmadge Bennett; two sisters-in-law Angela Holland, Ametta (Coy, Sr.) Johnson; three brothers-in-law Ralph, Anthony, and Nathaniel Holland; very special cousins Valerie Sample and Gilia Drummond; special nieces LaToya Preston  and  niece-in-law Lenora (Anthony) Glover; childhood girlfriends Cassandra and Lakita Hall; very special, loving, faithful Goddaughter Andrea Stanbach; Godmother Ms. Deanna and God-sister Zina; her wonderful neighbors especially Shelly; good friend Tahirah Williams; childhood friend who worked at her day care Denise Edwards; a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews; numerous cousins, family and friends; 30+ years of day care children and parents.
