Obituary

Shelley Adrienne Hawkins graced the world with her presence on April 27. 1950. She was the third oldest child of Bertha and the late Lawrence Hawkins, Sr. Shelly was the oldest and as Shelly would say, the most beautiful of the six Hawkins girls. Shelley received her education through the Baltimore City school system and graduated from Carver High School. Following graduation, she attended Baltimore Community Colleage and the University of Maryland. She woked briefly in the insurance industry and for Bethleham Steel. In 1974, Shelley joined the U.S. Post Office and was employed there for thirty-one years. During her employment with the Post office, she held several positions, including Postal Supervisor. Shelley was an avid lover of jazz, classical music and rhythm and blues. She enjoyed traveling and meeting people. During her illness, she managed to travel to New Orleans to attend the Essence Music Festival. She enjoyed going dancing wih her sister Vera and other relatives and friends. Her favorite dance was the ''booty call''. Shelley loved people, especially her family and friends. She was the life of all gatherings and had a wonderful sense of humor. She spent a lot of precious moments with her son, Marcellus, and her grandsons, Cory and Cody. Shelley had a special relationship with her mother, sisters, brthers, cousins and friends. Shelley was very caring and giving and was always concerned about everyone else during and up until the end of her courageous battle with cancer. She continued to make everyone laugh throughout her illness. Shelley clearly had God in heart and in her spirit and loved attending mass at St. Matthew Church. She will be truly missed by all who knew of her.
