Sherman F. Cottman, son of Herman F. Cottman and Lillian E, Fauntleroy Phifer, was born on November 13, 1937 in Whitestone, VA. He fell asleep in death on January 5, 2012 after a brief illness. He was raised in Virginia and left there to serve in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958. He was married to Geraldine Cottman for 32 years and had four daughters; affectionately known as "the girls". Sherman loved family and enjoyed times spent with family and friends. He could be counted on to "work on the car" and enjoyed a good cup of coffee and a cigarette. Sherman retired from WR Grace in 1999 after many years of service. He was loved by many and live his life to the fullest. He leaves to mourn; four daughters; Sharon M. Lambert-Cooke, Stephanie A. Cottman, Regina M. Cottman and Roslyn D. Cottman-Taylor; one son-in-law, Joe Taylor; four siblings, Herman Cottman, Spencer Cottman, Lillian Peavy and Ann Davis; six granchildren, Elaina Dredden Recartez, Trevor Cottman Sheritria, Derek Lane, Mya Cooke, Andre Braxton Jr., and Jared Taylor; four great-grandchildren, Dontrae Lambert, Recartez Dredden Jr., Janelle Cottman and Zion Dredden; and a host of relatives and friends.
