Obituary

Sherman Gregory Walton, the eldest child and son of the late Eddie Bell Syas-Walton and

Boyd Nathaniel Walton, Jr., was born on April 25, 1947 in Lake Charles, LA. He transitioned

from this earthly life at his home on Monday evening, October 21, 2019.



As a military child, Sherman, a math prodigy with great academic promise, enjoyed a diverse

educational experience in the US and abroad. He graduated from Arundel High School in

1965. After high school he attended Morgan State University and joined ROTC with the goal

of training as a helicopter pilot.



Sherman entered the U. S Army in 1966 and was commissioned as an Officer in 1968 and

achieved the rank of Captain at the time of his discharge in 1970. During his tenure in the

Army, Sherman was an Army Helicopter Pilot and was awarded the following decorations:



The National Defense Service Medal for his service in Vietnam, Rifle Badge (M-14) Marksman,

the Good Conduct Medal (1st Award), Bronze Star and an Honorable Character of Service.



After completion of his military service he continued his education at Anne Arundel Arundel

Community College studying Electrical Engineering Technology. He further matriculated at

Catonsville Community College earning an accelerated Computer Programming Certificate.



His career spanned various corporate and entrepreneurial pursuits in the computer science

field. He worked as a Medical Imaging Technician providing technical support and repair to

complex imaging equipment for many years.



He was a sought after resource in his local communityhis computer literacy/and repair and

often provided free services to those who could not afford to pay.



Sherman was a lover of music and talented musician rarely seen without his guitar and

known for his impromptu jam sessions with friends and family.



Sherman was preceded in death by his mother, Eddie Bell Syas Walton and father Boyd

Nathaniel Walton, Jr. He is survived by: daughter, Deborah Cummings-Thomas, son, Sherman

Walton, Jr, daughters, Christina Walton and Malieka Walton, sister, Patricia Walton Caesar

(Allen), brother, Boyd (Judah) Walton III, sister, Valerie Walton, brother, David Walton, sister,

Carolyn Walton Lynch, three Grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended

family members, special friends and many lifelong friends.
