Obituary

SHERRI FRANCIS SYKES was born on January 25, 1963 to the late Amelia Taylor and the late Christopher Sykes. Sherri received her adolescent and young adult education in Baltimore City Public Schools and as an adult attended Sojourner-Douglass College, where she received her certification in Early Childhood Development, which blessed her with a wonderful job at a day care center with the Johns Hopkins Hospital. As a child Sherri was a tenacious and fearless girl, never understanding the word "NO!" It was always "WHY£" and "I have to see for myself." As a young adult her grandmother enrolled her in dance classes at Morgan State University where her passion for dance was discovered. Nothing in Sherri's life meant more to her than music, dance and children. Nobody had to worry about their children when Sherri was around, especially if you had a little girl. Around Sherri, your little girl could be anything she dreamed of being, a princess, a famous singer, a ballerina or a superstar - or even a clown! She would take your child in the house and dress them up with makeup, glitter, clothes, anything she could find; and fantasy became reality when your child was around Sherri. But the ultimate love of her existence was her one and only child, her son Dominick. From birth until her last breath the bond between this mother and son was earth shattering. No force between Heaven and earth could or will ever describe the love they shared for one another. Three other loves of Sherri's life were her husband, Donnie, her church and her family. Her love for her husband went without measure, her love for her family, especially her niece "Shaka" and her love for church and the Lord, words cannot express. Her love for her godmother, her best friend Margret and her sister-in-law Vonnie, ran as deep as any mass body of water that exists on the face of this planet we call earth. Only one phrase can and will ever describe the love she kept close to her heart "always" for her little and only sister Christina was "from the cradle to the grave" - nothing else needs to be said, and don't you ever forget it "I AM FREE NOW!" Sherri leaves to mourn: her one and "only" son, Dominick Aimed Sykes; her husband, Donald Brockington; only brother, Brian Sykes; and only sister, Christina Cothran; three nieces, Tiffany Nichole McGraw "Dink", Shaka Cothran and Sherri's "Mira, Mira, on my wall" Simira Christina Middleton; great-niece, Ajuanae Annette Rhodes; two great-nephews, Ajuani Jones and Larry Rhodes Jr.; nephew, Christopher Sykes; four grandchildren, Domonique Sykes, Dominick Sykes Jr., Zionna Sykes and "Little Mimi" Areonna Sykes; godmother, Patricia Flannagan; one godsister, Markia Quick; two godbrothers, Brandon Gross and Devron Jones; four sisters-in-law, Sandra Sykes, Vonzella Browne, Andrea Eaton and Yolanda Dill; two brothers-in-law, Anthony F. Brown and Andrew Shaw; "My Star" Shekeena Allen Parker; "My Tone Tone" Tonnette Holmes; and "My mother's angel" Icsha Jones; keep me close to your hearts; two very and dear friends, Tina Freeman and Margret Reed, Ginder Brown, Kendra McNeil, Danielle McNeil and Felicia McNeil "I love you my surrogate sister" Finnette Anthony; and my "Part-mer," Jacqueline Holmes - keep my little sister straight; my Pastor, Rev. Hoffman Brown; Sister Josephine, Sister Denise and Rev. Queen. Thanks for your love and to the magnitude of friends and loved ones I leave behind "LOST BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN." Love, Sherri
