Sherwin Johnson Sr., 76 years of age, of Brooklyn, NY passed away on May 5, 2026 at in Baltimore, MD surrounded by family.

Born on Sept. 23, 1949 in Pie Corner, St. Lucy Barbados, Sherwin was the son of Winston O’Neil and Cynthelia Greaves (Caddle). He graduated from St. Clements elementary, Coleridge and Parry for high school, Community College of Barbados, University of the West Indies Cave Hill campus in Barbados and later earned his Masters Degree in Education at Towson University.

Sherwin spent 42 years teaching physical education in both Barbados and New York City. He was known for his professionalism, brilliance, integrity, leadership and collaboration. Sherwin’s hobbies consist of a variety of sports. All of which he coached. When not on the field, he was making the most noise playing dominoes and cards, rattling his opponents.

He was also known for his selflessness, loyalty, humor, and love for his children and family. Sherwin devoted his free time creating life long experiences for his children, nieces and nephews of which he saw as his own.

Sherwin is survived by his children Richard Johnson, Neisha Johnson, Paul Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, Sherwin Johnson Jr., Ryan Johnson, Sophie Johnson, his sisters Lorna Ajala, Brenda King, and many extended family members and friends.
