Obituary

SHIRLEY ANN RICH BUTLER was born to the late George and Elver Rich on May 5, 1953. Shirley married Kevin Butler who has preceded her in death. Shirley attended Baltimore City Public Schools and her last employment was with Mercy Hospital for seven years; and she also worked at Enoch Pratt Library for thirteen years. Shirley volunteered faithfully at Gilmor Elementary School for many years being an assistant to teachers, the cafeteria, the office and wherever they needed assistance. Shirley was eager to assist and was extremely dependable. Shirley had a deep love for her sons Rodney and Lynn (Lynn Falton preceded her in death in 1992). As a mother, she was extremely attentive to her sons' education and life skills. Her love and gentleness was shown as a babysitter for many family and friends. Shirley was a fun-loving person, she had an infectious spirit that made everyone feel included. She never wanted to leave anyone out; she made sure you had a meal and a place to rest. She also had a creative side by creating baskets for needy children or family for the holidays. Shirley had a great passion for oldies and goodies music; many days you would see her dancing or singing to her favorite tunes with her spirits in her hand and she was always game for a ca;a game, particularly Spades. Many years ago, Shirley gave her life to the Lord at New Shiloh Baptist Church where she was baptized, and her love for the Lord never stopped. She prayed often and read her bible daily. Shirley leaves to mourn: her son, Rodney Paige and granddaughter, Keonte Paige; her sisters and brother-in-law, Dorothy, Lillian, Margaret, Geraldine, Helen (Silas) and Juanita; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
