MRS. SHIRLEY JONES COLLINS, fifth child of the late Vallie and Rose Jones, was born October 15, 1937 in Summerton, SC. Shirley was educated in the public school system of Summerton, sc. She graduated from Scott's Branch High School, class of 1955. After she graduated, she relocated to Baltimore. She was employed with Topic's Hats, Baltimore Harbor Tunnel and retired from The Social Security Administration in 1989. In 1959, Shirley met her soulmate and husband, Lawrence Collins (who preceded her in death). Out of that union came one son, Ronnie Collins (who also preceded her in death).

Shirley was a devoted member of Ebenezer AME Church for well over fifty years. She served in the following ministries: The Precious Gems, Ebenezer's Usher Board #1, Ebenezer Gospel Choir, and The Ebenezer Missionary Society.

Shirley departed this earthly life at 6:23 p.m. on Thursday, August 31, 2017 at The University of Maryland Hospital.

She left an impact on the lives of those she encountered and she knew no strangers. She generously gave herself to those in need. Together, Shirley and Lawrence raised Ashia their granddaughter.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her granddaughter, Ashia; step-granddaughter, Jerrnerra; sister, Sarah Geneva; brother-in-law, Genesis; sister-in-law, Betty; two dear cousins, Elnora and PI; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends, and other family members.
