Shirley Mae Hopkins Hammond, daughter of the late Arthur and Ethel Hopkins was born on December 30, 1929 in Baltimore, Maryland where she attended Baltimore City Public Schools. She worked in the field of nursing and physical therapy for many years. She found the love of her life, the late Gilbert A. Hammond and they formed a blessed union on October 27, 1946. This union was blessed with seven beautiful children over a 50 year span prior to Gilbert's passing. Shirley was a very loving and God fearing wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved her family and was dedicated to helping those in need. "Miss Shirley" as she was affectionately called, sold goodies to the neighborhood kids but was most famous for her frozen cups. She loved to cook and feed everyone who came by. She also loved to make sweet potato pies, rainbow cakes, and Jello cups for the holidays. Shirley suddenly departed this life on September 9,2015. She leaves to mourn her children: Sheila Marlene Brown (deceased), Gilda Laverne Easley (deceased), Pearline Easley, Maria Antoinette Barnes, Keith Eric Hammond, Deborah Anise Green, and Donna Arlene Cato. Her expanded family includes one daughter-in-law Regina Hammond; five son-in-laws: Dennis Brown Sr. (deceased), Walter Peay, David Easley, Ronald Easley, Anthony J Green Sr., and Duane M. Cato; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; six great great grand- children, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Viewing Joseph H. Brown Jr. Funeral Home
