IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley Ruth
Lee
June 21, 1953 – July 23, 2025
Shirley Lee was born June 21, 1953 to James Edwin Lee and Delores Russ. She transitioned from this earthly realm to be with the Lord on July 23, 2025 after a series of health complications, which she had fought for many years.
Shirley received her formal education as a student of Baltimore City Public Schools, graduating from Northwestern High School. Her favorite classes included Reading, Art, German, and Typing. She was a straight A student.
After graduating from high school, Shirley began clerical work for the City of Baltimore. She was soon hired by Baltimore City Hospital, where she worked as a ward clerk. It is with the cultivation of skills gained at these jobs as well as seasonal clerical work and an office management certificate from Baltimore Community College (she won the school's Fastest Typist Award) that led Shirley to employment with the Department of Social Services, from which she retired.
Although she received her initial example of faith from her mother, it was at the First Apostolic Church under Bishop Winfield Showell that she enjoyed her first church membership, accepting the Lord as her Savior. Participation in church activities was an integral part of her young life. She sang first soprano on the Young People's Choir (singing solos often). Along with her younger sister Peggy, she was indeed a regular part of the First Apostolic church family. In fact, it is there that as a pre-teen, she worked her first jobs, babysitting and cooking. It is the cooking that was perhaps her favorite hobby besides watching movies, listening to gospel and RnB and taking day trips in the car to the Eastern Shore, the Ocean, or Chicago.
Along her spiritual journey and walk with the Lord, Shirley became an active member, feeling blessed to join several churches, reacquainting with saints from previous years or becoming a part of a nearby church community.
Shirley was preceded in death by her mother Delores and sister Peggy. To honor her, she leaves her son Kendrick and a host of relatives.
