Obituary

Sterling Thomas Stannfield Sr., beloved son of the late Thomas Ruffin Stanfield and Hattie Irma Fuller-Stanfield, was born on May 29, 1943 in Caswell county, North Carolina. God called Sterling to his eternal rest at 2:27 p.m. on October 1, 2012 at Harbor Hospital. Sterling attended Person County Public School System in North Carolina. After leaving school, Sterling and his little brother Jon Lewis decided to travel to Baltimore, Maryland to pursue employment with their father. He quickly developed a passion in Carpentry and eventually ventured out to follow the family trade and started his own Home Improvement company. It was in Baltimore, that Sterling met and fell in love with his soul mate Annie Ruth, and an eternal bond was formed. On November 2, 1963, Annie and "Stan" as he was affectionately called by his wife were united in marriage and created an undeniable union. To know Sterling was a unique experience in itself. With his charming demeanor and devilishly handsome smile, the "PIMP" as he liked to call himself knew how to brighten up your day. Sterling was a mentor and a hero to everyone he encountered. His presence commanded respect and his sense of humor was bold and straight to the point. Sterling was considered to be one of the most genuine and honestly outspoken individuals you would ever know. More importantly, Sterling knew that his family was his world, so he loved, supported and fought for them whole heartedly until the end. He was preceded in death by his three sons, Sterling Jr., Steven and Santini; his grandson, Marcel; his sister, Hattie Joann Woody; and his brother, John Lewis Standfield. Sterling is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 50 years, Annie Ruth Stanfield; devoted children, Evelyn, Perry, Mildred, Hattie, Stanley, Scott and Lisa; son-in-law, Jermaine; daughters-in-law, Karen, Kieta, and Chaunice sisters, Marie Pattyford, Jean McGhee and Linda Russell; brothers-in-law, Walter Woody and Walter McGhee; sisters-in-law, Shirley, Diane, and Delores; one uncle, Weldon Stanfield; twenty nine, grandchildren; twenty eight great-grandchildren; and a large host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.
