IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Steven Carter
Sr
January 10, 1961 – April 19, 2022
Steven Carter. Sr: known to all as Big Steve, was born on January 10,1961 in Baltimore, Maryland. He was the sixth child born to the late James J, and Hazel E. Carter. Steve suddenly departed this life on April 19, 2022.
Steve spent his childhood in Baltimore City and received his early education in Baltimore City Public Schools. He had great athleticism and demonstrated his skills as a member of the
Track Team, Football Team, Wrestling Team and he was also a Boxer. Steve was so good at sports that his legacy will be known for generations to come as he was inducted into the
Douglass High School Hall of Fame.
Steve had a strong work ethic and was also an entrepreneur.
He worked for the Department of Parks and Rees, the Department of Public Works - Solid Waste Division for 25+
years, from which he retired in 2019. Most recently, he worked for the United States Department of Agriculture
(USDA) as the Head Custodian. His Entrepreneurial skills and
desire to be a leader in the community led him to start Steve's Cleaning Service in 1992. This business started with a bucket
and mop as Steve rode the bus to clean homes. Steve grew his business and was a sought-after contractor. Many of the notable businesses that Steve had as clients were Wabash
Manor Apartments, Greater Baltimore Urban League, M&T
Bank, Municipal Employees Credit Union (MECU), Radio One,
Social Services and Baltimore City Schools.
Steve overcame many obstacles in life, one notable obstacle
was when he fell 5 stories while completing a contract, which
left him in a wheelchair for over a year. Contemplating and reflecting on life, Steve looked toward God not only for healing, but to identify his true purpose. He lived his life out loud and was well know and love by many. The Bible says to be a friend, you must show yourself friendly and everyone that Steve encountered considered him a friend.
On May 26, 2002, Steve married the love of his life
Debbie Carter from this union Steven Carter, Jr. was born which created a blended family to include Edward Carter, Tierra Garrus, and Brandon Wilson.
Steve's spiritual walk and awakening had him join
Brown's Memorial and later transferred his membership to Alive Again Church& Ministries where
he was a Trustee in Training.
Because, sports was in his DNA, Steve was an assistant
coach to many of Steven Jr's football teams: Wolf
Pack, Holy Dirt and Maryland Heat. Family and friends
were important to Steve and you could always find him
doing one of his favorite hobbies- cooking on the grill.
If you were hungry and you were around Steve, he was
either going to take you out or cook something for you.
He will be remembered as a provider, a trash talker, a
comedian and an overall good person. He leaves to
cherish his memory: wife--Debbie; children--Edward,
Tierra, Brandon, and Steven Jr.; four grandchildren
