Obituary

On October 1, 2025, the Angel of God's mercy guided SYLVIA JONES home to receive her Heavenly Wings. You put up a good fight but your work was done.

Sylvia was acknowledged at her Centenarian birthday with a Certificate of Recognition and Appreciation signed by Gov. Wes Moore and Mayor Brandon Scott. Enjoy eternal rest at the age of 103.

Sylvia was born March 16, 1922 in Scotland County, North Carolina to the late Lloyd Jones and Lizzie Davies-Jones. She was adopted by her step-father Jimmie Peterkin. She was the third child of eight children, all who preceded her. 'They were a large family with strong characters but loving personalities that they embraced with a lots of love.

Sylvia was home schooled and she helped raise her siblings in the early 1940's. She wed Edward Jones, who preceded her, and moved to 'Texas. She adapted to the lifestyle with her fashion and western attire, especially her Boots on the ground . Sylvia relocated to Baltimore to be with her family in 1965. She had a bigger-than-life personality. She met her special long-time friend Mr. Charles Thomas, who preceded her, and they were able to travel and visit family. When they were home it was all about the game Dominos. 'They played it religiously. She was very independent with a strong mind about accepting and being accountable for her life. She would enlighten you with fantastic stories about her past. Sylvia, even in her later years when you would visited her, would reminisce about her life in the South with family and friends. While at the nursing facility, she had a little bit of gossip to tell you about everybody there. Most of her time was spend focusing on her baby brother Newton, who resided in the facility with her.

Sylvia's enthusiastic spirit never diverted from life's ups and downs. Her memory will live on and a part of her will always be here. Aunt Sylvia, you will be missed. May you rest with the Angels.

Sylvia had siblings who preceded her in death: Clara Fleming, Lilia Brown, James (Brother) Peterkin, Jimmy Peterkin, Elizabeth Green, Ella Mae Reid, and Willie (Newton) Peterkin. Sylvia leaves behind nieces, nephews and a wide circle of family and friends.
