Obituary

Sylvia Hilda Sorrell, daughter of the late William and Nadine Thomas, was born on January 27, 1927 in Baltimore, Maryland. She departed this life on June 20, 2007 to go home to be with the Lord. She received her education in the Baltimore City School System and later attended Saint Monica's Catholic School. Sylvia began her working years in the dietary department of South Baltimore General Hospital and went on to become a domestic worker for Chuck Law, a prominent Baltimore jugde. She soon was afford the ability to become a stay-at-home mom. From Sylvia's first union of marriage to the late George Parker, she bore three children - Jean, and the late George and Dorothy Parker. She remarried in November of 1976 to the late James H. Sorrell Slim. From this union five children were born - Ricky, Tyrone and the late Jerome Sorrelll, Sylvia and Angela. For many years Sylvia was a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She later converted to a Jehovah's Witness for a period of time. Once you've met Sylvia, you would never forget her. To some she was ''Mama'' and to many she was ''Granny''. She had no problem expressing herself, and everyone loved her ''speak your mind'' attritude. She loved cooking and shopping and enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren. Toknow her was to love her. Sylvia leaves to ourn: five choldren, Jean, Rickey, Tyrone, Sylvia and Angie; thirteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren; brother, Wilson Thomas; sister, Margaret Reese; sisters-, brother-,sons-and daughters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, other rlatives and friends.
