Obituary

Rev. Thelma Chase, daughter of the late Rev. Harry Collins and Grace Collins was born on November 28, 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland. A committed worker for the Lord, she departed this life on August 21, 2015. She received her formal education in the Baltimore City Public School System. Following her fathers foot steps she began to workfor the Lord at age 11. She was raised to fear and respect the Lord and she taught Sunday School at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church. She also attended Church of God in Christ where she would direct the choir, clean the church and light the fire so all could be warm. At age 12 she became a missionary going to pray for the sick and help in any way she could. At the age of 21 she received the baptism of the holy spirit. After high school she worked various jobs where she always was on time and gave her best. She believed in hard work and doing a job right until it was completed. She was even a cook in a restaurant she helped manage. In her 20's she began to work at Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She said an Angel told her she would get the job and she did, she told them she was the valentine sweet heart. She worked there for 24 years and retired her position with honors in 1993. Rev. Chase had 2 sons, Percy her oldest and Harry her youngest who she loved very much. She took care of them and raised them to be men of God. Every time her children were in need she was always there to assist. She made them repeat scriptures and kept them educated. Still a dedicated worker for Christ she started a church of her own with her late father, Rev. Harry A. Collins. Spirit of Truth Baptist Church was founded in 1974 and was a haven for lost souls. She helped house people, feed people and taught the word of God to all who would listen. She helped save many souls. In 1969 she met the love of her life, Donald Chase and they became husband and wife that year. Her love for him was great and they had 46 years of a blessed marriage. She was a take charge woman keeping everything in decency and order. She even convinced her husband to join her in help running Spirit of Truth Baptist Church. In 1979 her only grandson was born. She loved him with an uparalled love and supported everything he . did. Her love for him continued through her whole life. She spoiled him, taught him who God was and never let him down. She was his angel on earth. In 2000 she became a great grandmother and continued the tradition of love and care. During her life she touched many hearts, made numerous friends and she sincerely will be missed by all. She leaves to mourn: her dedicated husband, Donald E. Chase; her two sons, Harry A. Collins II and Percy Collins; one grandson, Harry A. Collins Jr. III and his wife, Tequila L. Collins; four great grandsons, Harry A. Collins IV, Judah, Jordan and Elijah Collins; five sisters, Barbara Thorton, Edna Terry, Sidney Deal, Dorthy Anderson, and Risa Collins. She leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of loving relatives and friends. To God be the glory for this wonderful life He gave her to share with us, you will always be in our hearts.
