Obituary

THELMA JOHNSON, daughter of the late Josie Stevenson and George Harper, was born May 16, 1924 in Greenville, South Carolina. She departed this life on October 14, 2015 after a lengthy illness. She was employed with the Baltimore City Public School System as a full-time employee with the Food Service Department until her retirement in 1988. Thelma fell in love with the late William H. Johnson, Sr., and they became a blended family with six children (Maxine, Aurelia, Bernice, William [r., Robert and Hayes) when they married. From that union they had three additional children (Alano and twins Marie and Maria). She was a faithful wife and mother. Thelma gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of the Shiloh Christian Community Church where she was a faithful member of their senior group. She had a passion for needlepoint and cooking and she was famous for her desserts. She loved playing cards and watching TV game shows (Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy). She also loved to eat at Red Lobster and Old Country Buffet. Thelma was preceded in death by: her husband, William Sr.; mother, Josie Stevenson; father, George Harper; daughter, Aurelia James; son, Hayes; four grandsons, Donald J. and Anthony D. Brooks, Alvin B. Campbell and Michael Hollman; two granddaughters, Tonya P. Isler Johnson and Wendy Johnson; great-grandson, Avon Hollmon; daughter-in-law, Sheila Gross and son-in-law, Donald J. Brooks Sr. Thelma leaves to mourn her passing: four daughters, Bernice J. Brooks, Marie B. Young (Nathan S. Young), Maria B. Johnson- Shaner (Jeffrey L. Shaner) and Maxine Witherspoon; three sons, Robert S. Gross (Diane Gross), Alano T. Johnson Sr. (Esther Johnson) of North Carolina, William H. Johnson [r.; two brothers, Joseph Johnson and Melvin Owens J r. of Monroe, Michigan; forty- six grandchildren, seventy-five great-grandchildren twenty-two great-great-grandchildren; one great-neice, Mrs. Theldra Boyd; and a host of other family and friends.
