Theodore Roosevelt Yates Jr., was born on December 3, 1931, in Gloucester County, Virginia to the late Theodore Roosevelt and Lillian Virginia Yates. He departed this life on November 12, 2013, after a lengthy illness. Yates, as he was affectionately called, became disable with severe epileptic seizures at an early age and was not allowed to attend the public school system to receive a formal education. However, he could read, write and he became an expert at putting jigsaw puzzles together. Although his illness limited his activities, he never complained and always kept busy. You could find him running errands and helping neighbors. He was satisfied when he was experimenting with clocks, watches and TV parts. He could always tell you the exact time of day. For the past year, Yates was at the Holly Hill Manor Nursing Home, where the staff loved him. Yates accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and continued to worship throughout his life. Whenever you asked him, "Where is Jesus?" his reply would be "In my heart." He could pray the Lord's Prayer as well as the 23rd Psalm. Yates was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Archie George Yates; and one sister, Helen Christine Johnson. Those left to cherish his memory include: two sisters, Geraldine Dawkins and Irene Green; two brothers, Enoch and Ernest Yates; nieces, nephews, and a host of other family members and friends. 2 Corinthians 5: 8 "We are confident, 1 say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord."
