Thomas Russell Prince, son of the late Cindy Hill and stepson to the late Benjamin Hill, was born on August 5, 1932 in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. God called him home on Thursday, April 6, 2006. Tom was raised and educated in Roanoke Rapids until the age of sixteen, when he came to Baltimore. Tom's brothers, Timothy, Benjamin Jr., Douglass and Tyrone preceded him in death. Tom met and until with Ardelia Carroll, and from that union was their daughter, Doriene. In later years, he met and married Ellen West, who preceded him in death. Tom was a strong-willed but fun loving man. He loved to tell funny or shocking stories. Although many of those stories were quite unbelievable, they were always entertaining. His relationship with his daughter was a very special one. Known as ''Pop Pop'' to many, Tom's love for animals was second only to his family. He and Ellen often took in stray dogs and cats. At one point, they had two dogs and two cats living in peaceful harmony under one roof. Tom even once trained a squirrel to come to him when called and take food from his hand. Tom gave his life to the Lord many years ago. He attended Oak Grove Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids. He was a member of the New Shiloh Baptist Church, where he served on various committees. He attended for nearly thirty years until his health began to fail him. Tom leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter and son-in-law, Doriene and Charles Walters; a grandson, David Walters; three sisters, Janet Hll and Brenda Boyd, and Thelma Hill; two aunts, Rose Sykes of Baltimore, Maryland and Lillian Walters of Brooklyn, New York; a host of nieces, newphews, cousins, friends and family.
