Obituary

Thomas James Stewart, Sr. was born on Febuary 2, 1920 to the late Jezebel and Roy Stewart in Norfolk, Virginia. He also had one sister. the late Elizabeth Boots. He departed this life on Thursday, August 21, 2008 after a lengthy illness. Thomas was affectionately called "TJ" by his family and close friends. He came to Baltimore with his parents at a very early age and he attended Baltimore City Public Schools. During WWII, he was inducted into the Army where he served in the Philippines and New Guinea. Upon completion of his military service he returned home and met Elizabeth Johnson, who married on September 16, 1949. He went to work for the United States Postal Service, from which he retired after thirty years of service. TJ possessed a wonderful, dry sense of humor, and there was nothing he would not do for his family and friends. TJ loved music and one of his favorite songs was "One In A Million." He used to play it so loud and when asked why, he responed, "I play it loud fro my wife to hear," because the words in the song were everything he wanted to say to her. He leaves to cherish his memory; his wife of fifty-nine years, Elizabeth Stewart; three daughters, G;oria, Karen and Kathy; two sons, Jay and Joey, nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, one daughter-in-law, one son-in-law, two sisters-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
