Valeria Lynn
Shorter
February 9, 1953 – May 14, 2019
On May 14th, 2019 Valeria Lynn Shorter beloved mother,
grandmother, and great grandmother passed away after a
valiant fight. She was born to James Shorter and Dorothy
Vaughan on February 9th, 1953 in Mullins, South Carolina.
She was baptized a Jehovah's Witness on May 22nd, 2010.
She served Jehovah in a multitude of congregations including
Waverly, Riverwood Park, Olney, and Freemount.
Valeria worked and retired from the state of Maryland as a
correctional officer. She held various part-time positions in
her leisure time. She was a great cook, an avid food lover, and
loved her Dooney and Bourke purses. In spite of her imper-
fections, she served Jehovah with the hope of everlasting life
on paradise earth.
Valeria is survived by five daughters: Mada Shorter, Valencia
Cook, Dana Shorter, Tisheua Pearson, and Olivia Coates; 11
grandchildren: Valerie Shorter, Ashley Stokes, Jamie Ellis,
Victoria Ford, Stephen Isaacs, Jamece Baker, Fatima Bur-
gess, Charles Baker Jr., Bridget Adeosun, Nicholas Pearson,
and Noah Shorter; and a host of great grandchildren. While
she never bore a biological son, Charles Baker Sr. held a
special place in her heart. She leaves behind three siblings:
Alexander Vaughan, Harry Lee Vaughan, and Cheryl
Vaughan.
