Valerie E. Hunter-Williams, was born on December 9,1957 to the late Ethel Hunter-Upsher and Theodore Upsher. She departed this life suddenly on September 29, 2013. Valerie was the sixth child of eight children. It was such a joy to her growing up with her siblings Sylvia, Sonia, Ronnie, Ronald, Louise, Theodore Jr., Barbara and her cousins, The Squirrels. Valerie affectionately known as "Popeye", received her education at Frederick Douglass Senior High. She attended the Watterson Skill Center where she received a certificate in Nursing. She was employed at the University of Maryland and Federal Hill Nursing Home. In 1975 Valerie married Edward Williams Jr. from this union were three children, Shawnta, Edward III and Tavon. Valerie (Popeye) was a proud mother who had a special bond with her children and her love for them is everlasting. Valerie (Popeye was a loving warm hearted person. She had a giving and caring personality. She made friends wherever she went. Her home was an unique place where her family and friends would gather for much laughter and enjoyment. She enjoyed watching the soap operas: The Young and the Restless and The Bold and Beautiful, and spend countless hours watching movies on Lifetime. The holidays were very special to Valerie (Popeye). During Thanksgiving and Christmas, she made it a family tradition to spend time with her sister to make homemade pies, cakes, and cookies. She expressed much love to her family. In 2004, after the unexpected death of her beloved daughter, Shawnta, Valerie dedicated her life to caring and nurturing for her immediate family. She devoted all of her time teaching them about life, respect and family love. Valerie's family was her true passion in life. Most of all, Valerie (Popeye) was a proud, devoted, dedicated daughter, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, cousin and friend. She will be sincerely missed by everyone but never ever forgotten. Finally, in Valerie (Popeye) voice she would say: I AIN'T GOT TIME AND THAT'S IT AND THAT'S ALL. She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Shawnta Hunter; 1 sister, Louise Hunter; 2 brothers, Ronald Hunter and Theodore Upsher Jr.; and 1 cousin, Mollie Squirrel. Valerie leaves to cherish her memory: 2 devoted sons, Edward III and Tavon Williams; 10 devoted grandchildren, Milton, Getia, Tania, Edward, Takhira, Juntae, Kiam, Logan, Azyrie, and Tayona; 4 great grandchildren, Kareem, Dontae, Justin andJamarrie; 3 dedicated, sisters, Sylvia Gibson, Sonia Thomas and Barbara D. Hunter; 1 dedicated brother, Ronnie Hunter; 1 sister-in-law, Barbara C. Hunter; 1 brother-in-law, Carmen Thomas-Raheem; her devoted cousins, The Squirrels; her devoted friend, Mr. Clarence Buie; her best friend, Ms. Kim Smith and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
