IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Vandy
Murphy
January 12, 1938 – September 5, 2024
VANDY MURPHY was born on January 12, 1938 in Baker Hill, Alabama to the late Anna Field and George Murphy. On September 5, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. a convoy arrived at 5024 Yellowwood Avenue. It was a sight to be seen with trucks parked from one end of the street to the other to carry him home.
Vandy received his education in Baker Hill, Alabama school system. He then at the age of 17
moved to Baltimore, Maryland.
Vandy was united in Holy Matrimony on October 24, 1963 to Joyce "Brenda" Warner with whom he shared a loving union of sixty-plus years. To this union three children were born, one son, Vandy B. Murphy, two daughters, Jacqueline and Yolanda Murphy.
Even though Vandy left the south at a young age he still had that southern hospitality instilled in him. Vandy loved to entertain for his family and friends. He always wanted everyone try his wife's cooking, he knew once they tried it he would have a friend for life. Vandy was known for his famous breakfast at 5 or 6 in the morning. He introduced all the kids to King Syrup whether it was on his eggs or fried chicken. Vandy also loved his job driving a truck which he did for fifty plus years. He was also known for giving directions if you needed them or not.
Vandy loved going fishing especially with his company R.W. Bozel Transfer, Inc. Vandy enjoyed sharing his experience on fishing trips out in the big ocean with his son and godsons. He enjoyed his company picnics with family and friends. He always had the biggest heart, he would help any one no matter what. His wife was the childcare provider, but he was always right there, whether it was going to the barbershop, dropping them off at school or picking them up, Vandy would open his doors so no child would be home alone.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife Joyce Brenda Murphy and grandson Bernard James Murphy.
He leaves to cherish in his memory his loving son Vandy B. Murphy, two daughters Jacqueline and Yolanda Murphy, daughter-in-law Renee Murphy, granddaughter Daniell Murphy, great grand daughter Harmony Findley, brother John Lampkin, sister Laura Kate Ewell, brother-in-law Bobby Ewell and a host of nieces, nephews, godchildren and friends.
