Vashti Harvin, the thirteenth of fourteen children, was born in Summerton, South Carolina to the late Preston and Amanda Mack Johnson on December 16, 1924. She departed this life on December 14, 2006 at Upper Chesapeake Hospital in Bel Air, Maryland. At an early age, she accepted Christ as her personal Savoir. She was educated in the public school system in Clarendon County, South Carolina.. As a young woman Vashti met and married her sweetheart Eugene Harvin in South Carolina. She was a devoted wife and faithful companion to her husband, who preceded her in death. Vashti was employed at Calvert Distillery and Maryland Cup Company. Subsequently, She was employed by Up-To-Date Laundry for many years. She was very dependable-missing little or no time at work. She later retired from Up-To-Date Laundry. Vashti was a kind, loving and caring mother. She was always willing to give her last to anyone in need of help. She loved to laugh and would make others laugh along with her. We will truly miss her spirit. She leaves to cherish her pleasant memory; children, Glen Ragin of Philadelphia, PA., Jacqueline Bailey, Gwendolyn Harvin, Dwight Harvin and Jeffrey Harvin of Baltimore, Md.; son-in-law, Bud Bailey of Baltimore, Md.; daughters-in-law, Ruth Ragin of Philadelphia, PA. and Catherine Barber of Baltimore, Md.; siters, Mae Morgan of Alliace, Ohio and Lila Housse of Baltimore, Md.; sister-in-law Suester Mellerson of Baltimore, Md.; seven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
