Vashti Gladys Ross Parrish
was born on November 10,1944 in
Baltimore, Maryland to the late Pensacola Johnson and the late Willie
Chambers. She departed this life on February 18, 2017. 'Vashe', as
she
was
affectionately called, was the youngest of twelve children. She was preceded
in death by her siblings: brothers Ira and James Johnson; Daniel. David, Joel,
, athaniel. Oscar, Samuel and William Ross.
Vashti
was educated in the Baltimore City Public School System and
graduated from the Paul Laurence Dunbar Senior High School. She entered
the workforce at the early age of sixteen at the Comfort Springs Mattress
Factory. Thereafter, she worked several factory jobs including London Fog,
Ben Franklin, Dynasplint and finally retired from Bi-Rite Food Market in 2005.
Vashti
was raised in East Baltimore and was well known throughout the
community. She resided in her childhood home (which was purchased by her
parents in 1952) until God called her home. She was also married to the late
George Marvin Parrish and was the loving mother of one daughter.
Vashti
enjoyed traveling and having fun with her sisters Ruth and Georgia
and her niece Kim. She looked forward to her annual Mother's Day trips
having sailed the Carribean Islands and other places abroad. She also loved
having fun by traveling locally, playing the slots and dancing.
Vashti
had a heart of gold. She was a kind, caring, nurturing and loving
woman. She was loved and cherished by many and will be sadly missed by
family, friends and neighbors alike.
Vashti
is survived by her life partner, Clarence Johnson; one grandson,
Donald Green, Jr.; ten great-grandchildren, Dae'kelrah. Dernora. Diquan.
Darrien, Dashay, Deja, Daejhuan & Dillon Green and Sasha & Kai James; one
great granddaughter-in-law, Natasha Miller; two sisters, Ruth Redmond and
Georgia M. Cox; a devoted niece, Kim R. Cox; a lifelong friend, Clara Myers; a
self-appointed sister, Sandra Arrington Yancy and a host of nieces, nephews,
family and friends. Preceded her in death: daughter, Valarie Ross; husband,
George M. Parrish; one aunt, Ruth Nelson; and one uncle, Ira Johnson.
