Obituary

VENUS LENORA LeCATO was born on December 15, 1920 in Baltimore, Maryland to parents Arnetta and Charles LeCato, Sr. She was the younger of two children. Her brother, Charles LeCato Jr., preceded her in death. Venus peacefully departed this life on September 7, 2013 while residing at the Keswick Multi-Care Center in Baltimore. Venus loved the Lord and had a close relationship with Him from a very young age. Her favorite scripture was Psalms 46:10 which says; "Be still and know that I'm God, I will be exalted among the nations. I will be exalted in the Earth." Her life and service reflects well the love she had for her God and her fellow man. Venus and her devoted husband Roland Armstrong met, fell in love, and were married when she was a mere nineteen years old. Until his death in 1998, they spent many loving years together. When you saw one at their often-attended social and church functions, you always saw the other. They were a couple who knew the importance of giving back to community as well as developing lasting personal relationships. Both Venus and Roland were long standing members of the Bethel AME Church of Baltimore and served faithfully in many areas of ministry. Venus maintained her membership there until it became difficult for her to travel alone to the city for services. She then joined her present church family at John Wesley United Methodist Church where she served until her health prevented her from attending. Even though Venus and Roland had no biological children of their own, they were still blessed to have shared in the lives of other children. Venus always took the time and the opportunity to mother those children that God placed in their lives through family, friends and community. This was quite evident in the life long relationship between Goddaughter Fredine Sifford-Smith, better known to most as Cassie, and Venus. Anyone who spent any time with the two of them can testify to the fact that their relationship was one that any mother or daughter would be proud of. Not only did Venus share her love with Cassie as her own but at the age of 87, she was honored by the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities for the more than 20 years she volunteered her services at the Ruth Parker School in Millersville, Maryland. Those years were spent helping students who were determined to be at risk of succeeding or having special needs. For the past three years Venus has resided at the Keswick Multi-Care Center where in her earlier days there she provided many smiles, laughs and pleasant conversation to other patients as well as staff and visitors. She never lost her joy even though her health presented a challenge for her. She will be missed by many. Venus is survived by: her goddaughter, Fredine Cassandra Sifford-Smith; niece, Vivian LeCato; two great nieces, Dana McCready (George) and Nina Molock; two cousins, Ellis Young III (Carole) and Elaine Young; three lifetime girlfriends, Virginia Monroe, Daisey DuBose and Marsha Henderson; as well as many other friends and associates.
