Obituary

Vernice Magdalene Williams was born to the late Rebecca Gatewood and Harvey Williams on September 29, 1950 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Vernice was called home on May 4, 2025 at the age of 74.

Vernice was preceded in death by her daughter Diana Randolph, her sisters Debra Monroe, Marva Williams, Claudette Davenport and brother Harry McClelland. Vernice was known for her outgoing, hardworking, straightforward, honest, generous, loving, NO NONSENSE personality.

Vernice received her education from the Baltimore City Public School System, then worked at the cleaners and went on to culinary arts school where she became a chef and worked at the National Aquarium in Baltimore until retirement in 2011. Her hobbies included cooking for everyone, shopping, watching game shows and westerns, spending time with her great-nephew Khyon and the occasional trip to Atlantic City or Delaware Park.

Vernice will be deeply missed and is survived by: her sister, Bernadette Hunter (Larry); brother, Maurice McClelland (Mary); great-niece/bonus granddaughter, Nhyin Leighton; bonus grandchildren, Khyon, Kiari and Khasan; longtime friends, John Lee Johnson and Tyrone Fenwick; best friends, Flo Ellis and Thomasina Woodfolk; and a host of other family and friends.
