Vernon Maurice Queen, Sr. was born on July 4, 1927 in Annapolis, Maryland to the late Arnett and Carrie Queen. He departed this life on April 19, 2009 from a brief illness at Union Memorial Hospital. Vernon was educate in the Baltimore City Publicc School System. After graduating from school he enlistd in the United States Army and served his country. Upon his discharge he married the late Evelyn D. Jones. Always a dependable, hard worker Vernon labored as a longshoreman for serveral years until an accident prevented him from continuing. He was then employed with the Baltimore City School System and worked until his retirement in 1991. Raised in a Christian home, at an early age he reveived Christ as his Savoir. After attending many churches he made his home at New Shiloh Baptist Church in 1974. He served faithfully as a member of the Great Choir and Singing Men. His steady presence will truly be missed. Vernon's joy was reading and playing the guitar and piano. He enjoyed watching baseball and bus trips. An amazing fact about Vernon is that he could name every elected president from George Washington to Barack Obama! He was liked by everyone. He is preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Queen, son, Ellery Queen, brother, James Queen, and sisters, Alice and Arlene Williams of New York. He leaves to cherish his memory: sons, Vernon, Jr. and Arnett T. Queen; sister, Hilda Queen White; two grandchildren, Timothy Darnell and Monica Queen; two great-grandchildren, Timatao'e Queen and James Martin, Jr; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
