Obituary

VERNON DORSEY SMITH, "Bay," was born on April 22, 1951 to the late Vernon D. and Amanda J. Smith in Baltimore, Maryland. At the age of fourteen Vernon accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and was baptized at Mt. Olivet Disciple of Christ Christian Church. On Saturday, December 21, 2013, God dispatched one of His Angels to come down and pick one of His flowers from His earthly garden. After battling cancer, Vernon was ready. Vernon received his education in the Baltimore City Public School System. Upon the completion of his education, he became an employee of Lombardi Knitware Company, working as a shipping and receiving clerk. In later years he was employed by Arbutus Contracting Company as a window and door installer. He took great pride in this field of work until he was physically unable to do it. Subsequently, he took a job with the Roost Lake Trout restaurant. The business was sold, and he became employed at The Bakery Express until his passing. As we all know, Vernon was an honest, witty, and non-judgemental person. He loved people and met no strangers. He was an avid Baltimore Ravens fan. Watching vintage western movies and listening to classical music were his favorite hobbies. He married the late Linda E. Broadway-Smith, and out of that union was born one daughter, Nicole Dorsey Smith. Preceding him in death are his parents, first wife; one sister, Carola Whittington; and two brothers, Pennington B. and Walter Smith. Precious memories will be cherished by: his daughter, Nicole Smith- Stephens (Michael); sister, Veronica Smith; niece/sister, Lillian Clark (Arthur); stepdaughters, Towanda Chapman (Lawrence) and Glenda Green; estranged wife, Patricia Ward-Smith; five grandchildren, one great- grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Also left to mourn are his loving and devoted friend, Gloria Harrison; and childhood friend, Ali Shabazz. Viewing Joseph H.
