Obituary

That heart belonged to Veronica Byfield. The ninth of fourteen
children born to Albert Charles and Miriam Davis on April 18, 1931.
She was born in Kingston, Jamaica and was a traditional Island girl
full of life and love. She learnt and acquired great culinary skills very
early in life.

She had a zest for life and adventures. In the summer of 1970, she
relocated to Baltimore Maryland, which became home to her hus-
band and their children. After 39 wonderful years of marriage, her
husband Wilmot, went home to glory March 30,1996.

Veronica was a natural caregiver. Because of her patience and
compassion, it was not surprising that she worked as a healthcare
provider at Provident Hospital. After her retirement from Provident,
she became restless and returned to work as a private duty nurse. Her
love and devotion for her family and friends speaks volume and will
continue to be a living legacy. She was an anomaly, the glue of her
family, and their numerous friends all of whom she nurtured and
loved dearly.

Veronica was very passionate about sewing and cooking. Her dolls
were always fashionably dressed in all her latest creations. She has
shared many stories andfamily history about growing up in Jamaica
with her parents and siblings around the dinner table, her favorite
family gathering place. She loved Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter
and birthdays. She would create events to get the family together for
her lavish meals which were usually enough to feed the entire block
and many times it did. She truly enjoyed cooking, and she was an
excellent cook and always a gracious host. Every guest left her house
with a full stomach and an extra plate of goodies. She has touched
many lives with her caring ways and filled many bellies with her
excellent culinary delights.

Veronica Byfield had been a member of the Browns Memorial Baptist
Church since 1975, and was also a member of the Browns Memorial
Flower Circle. In September of 2014, Veronica and her sister Ivy
Seymour, were featured in the Church Newsletter," The Journey."
The article is a testament of her life, her journey and the legacy she
