Obituary

Virginia O. Smith beloved daughter of the late James Bishop and Isadora DeLoatch was born on February 23, 1930, in Kelford, NC. God called her home on Friday, September 2, 2016 after a lengthy illness.

Virginia met and married the late Lorenzo C. Smith on September 11, 1954. Virginia worked and retired from Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1991. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Virginia received her early education in Kelford, North Carolina, before moving to Baltimore where she attended the Community College of Baltimore.

Virginia was a faithful member of St. Francis Xavier. She was a member of St. Martin de Paul. She would have given anything to be able to walk through the doors of St. Francis one more time. She would say the Rosary every morning

faithfully. .

Virginia was a loyal friend to many. While working in the Oncology department at Hopkins Virginia would often invite the families of out of town patients to her home, where she would make them feel welcome and offer a home cooked meal. She was a gifted cook and was known for her pineapple upside down cake and fried chicken. Her favorite artists were Chris Brown and R. Kelly.

Virginia was known and loved for her smile. You can't mention her without mentioning her smile. She got such a kick out of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She lit up whenever they were around~. To her they could do no wrong. She loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren unconditionally. She never stood in judgement of anyone and always had a kind word. Virginia attended every wedding, graduation and family reunion she possibly could.

Sometimes you get the sense that a person just isn't ready, that they needed just a little more time, had a few more things to do, but Virginia she was ready to be with her father. She was prepared to go to glory. Virginia was once asked, "If you could give any advice what would it be?" she answered, "Mind your business."

Virginia is preceded in death by her siblings, Russell DeLoatch, Nathan DeLoatch, and Ethel Mae DeLoatch, Dorothy Jean Hardy and Joseph Warren Hardy.

She leaves to cherish her memory, one son, Garry Smith, (Darlene), three daughters, Wanda Smith-Robinson, (Gregory), Angela Thomas, Sharon Butler, (Daryl); nine grand children, Marvin Cooper, Quiana (Baron) Holmes, Ebony (Rodney) Weathers, Garry (Kellee) Smith, Daniel Tillman, Aisha Robinson, Angelo Jolley, Elijah Jolley and Na'Tia Player; and a host of great children and one great-great grandson. She also leaves to cherish her memory, two aunts, Jannie Hardy and Mary Curruthers of North Carolina; eleven sisters and brothers-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives she loved dearly.
