Obituary

WALLACE RUFUS, son of the late Bernie and Roberta Rufus, entered this life in Sumter, South Carolina, on December 17, 1951. He was the last son and the youngest of nine siblings. His brothers Thomas, Elroy (Bey), Alexander (Bobby), Richard, and Leon (Boonie) predeceased him. As a young man, Wallace followed family members who had relocated and moved to Baltimore, Maryland. At the recommendation of his brother Richard, who was employed there, he gained employment with Iacoboni Site Specialists, Inc. He was a dedicated and skilled employee, and remained there until he retired. Wallace was united in marriage to the former Arlene Richardson, who preceded him in death. He was the loving father of Eric Lamont Rufus. Wallace loved his family dearly and deeply, and his nieces had a very special place in his heart. He looked forward to and treasured family gatherings. Wallace spent favorable times bonding with other male family members and friends gathered at his home cooking on the open pit barbecue for family functions. Wallace was a very happy, friendly and outgoing person. He was a naturally gifted storyteller and great jokester. People enjoyed being in his presence and he kept you laughing. If you were having a bad day, Wallace could make you forget all about it. His spirit was contagious. Wallace was a snazzy dresser and was particularly fond of hats. He was not going anywhere without his wide brim hat and sharp outfit. When Wallace got snazzy, he would walk tall and let you know he was "clean as a whisde", which meant he was looking good. Wallace found joy in spending time with his companion Diane McFadden. He loved to travel and especially enjoyed annual summer trips to Myrde Beach with the family. He enjoyed the outdoors and on a nice weather day, you could find him on the porch socializing with his neighborhood buddies. Mr. Calvin was his fond and close buddy. God, in His infinite wisdom, called Wallace from labor to reward and he passed gently into His arms. He was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. He leaves to cherish many fond memories: son, Eric Rufus of Baltimore; beloved companion, Diane McFadden of Baltimore; three sisters, Retha Mae (Melvin Fulwood) of Gary Indiana, Christine (Robert Ray) and Elizabeth Rufus of Baltimore; two sisters-in-law, Margie Rufus and Carolyn (LJ Dickey) all of Baltimore; one aunt, Lizzie McDowell; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives, friends and extended family.
