Ward McArthur Peterson was born to the late Jessie Peterson and Lassie Eddins Peterson in Greensboro, Alabama on November 11, 1926. After a lengthy illness he was called home to Glory on Tuesday, July 24, 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Ward Peterson Jr., brothers Lepolean Peterson, Werdna Peterson, Jessie Peterson Jr., and sister Mamie Louise Ryans. He married the former Lula Whitaker in August 1947. To this union brought three two sons and a daughter. Ward worked hard to provide for his family. He held various jobs throughout his life. He worked as a farmer, construction worker and was a truck driver until he retired in 1989. He was called to Christ at an early age. He was a Deacon at the Friendship Baptist Church in Greensboro, Alabama. He joined New Shiloh baptist Church in the early nineties and was a faithful member until his illness. "Dad" or "Mack" as he was known to his family and friends was loved by all. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and passed this legacy to his eldest grandson Reginald. He loved to watch the old black and white movies on television, especially westerns. He leaves to cherish his memory; a loving and faithful daughter, Sara Brown; devoted son, Willie Peterson and daughter-in-law, Reverend Theresa Peterson; three brothers, Waltha Costella Peterson of Pemberton, NJ, Charlie Peterson and Robert Eloise Peterson of Tuscaloosa, AL; three sisters-in law, Willie Mae Peterson of Greensboro, AL, Addie Pearl Peterson and Ruby Peterson of Tuscaloosa, AL five grandchildren, Reginald Shirelle Peterson, Thomas Brown, Sherrell Peterson Brian Woodton, Terry Peterson and Willie Peterson Jr.; nine great-grandchildren, reginald Peterson Jr., Darrius Peterson, Sydni Peterson, Dedrik Peterson, Tomesha Brown, Brandi Woodton, Jamie Woodton, Christian Peterson and Landon Peterson; two great-great-grandchildren, Aedin Jenkins and Amaree Peterson; good friend and caretaker Linda Robinson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
