WENDELL ELLSWORTH GAITHER, the eighth child of Aubrey and Elaine Gaither, was born on March 14, 1945. Wendell passed peacefully on Saturday, May 2nd in Baltimore, Maryland. Wendell was educated in the Anne Arundel County Public Schools and attended Bates High School. He worked at Nevamar Ki.tchens as a cabinet maker and at Westinghouse as a custodian. Wendell retired as a driver for the Purple Heart Foundation. As a result of his expertise in moving, he was frequently called to assist when a family member needed to move. Wendell married Lue Ethel Taliaferro. From their union was born a son, Wendell, Jr. Even though Wendell, Jr. moved to a different state they always shared a special bond. Wennie, as he was affectionately called, was the life of the party. Whenever he arrived, you could be assured that he would "cut a rug" by demonstrating his James Brown impression, along with his version of break dancing. Wennie loved to cook. He could make the most elaborate meals. Whenever anyone visited, they were greeted by Wennie, which meant there was soup or a special entree cooking on the stove. After retiring from Purple Heart, he took on the responsibility of being the primary caregiver for his mother. Even though each Sibling had some responsibility, Wennie took on the day to day care. He carried out this responsibility without any hesitation. The family will be eternally grateful for the tender care he gave to Mama 'Laine. Wendell is survived by his son, Wendell, [r., daughter-in-law, linda, five granddaughters, Tanisha, Veronica, Shannon, Angela and Jessica, one grandson, Ricardo, and five great-grandchildren, Toccaro, Jose, John, Tajohna, and Phalen. He also leaves to mourn his Siblings Constance Burley, Llewellyn Gaither, Gordon Gaither, Barbara Brightful, Dexter Gaither, Deborah Smoot, Angela Gaither-Scott, Michael Gaither, four brothers-in-law, four sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
