William Branch Alston, Sr., the son of the late Wiley June Alston and Lucy Gray Alston was born on January 13, 1940 in Warrenton, North Carolina and transitioned from his earthly home on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2024.
William, affectionately known as "Branch", received his formal education in the Warren County Public School System before moving to Baltimore, Maryland in the late S0's. Family members remembered him being drafted in the U.S. Army, but records of his enlistment could not be located. He gave his life to Christ at an early age in North Carolina and continued his services for many years at the Shady Grove Baptist Church in Baltimore under the leadership of the late Rev. C. Campbell. Branch was employed for many ears by several tire companies, Plotkin Tire Company., Schnitzer Tires, Merchant Tires and the American Tire Company, where he received several awards for "excellent services". In 2002, Branch retired from Towel Specialties which was a total different line of work he had worked at during most of his adult life. He enjoyed weekend fishing trips with his older brother, Pearlie as well as the weekend family gatherings that was enjoyed by all.
On April 7, 1980, Branch and Lily Coleman were married and from this union, two children were born, William Branch Alston, Jr. (Binky) and Teniera Alston. From a previous marriage/relationship, Branch also was the father of William Darnell, Sheila, James, Marvin and Caroline.
After retirement, Branch found enjoyment in watching the Ravens football, old westerns, tinkering around the house, playing his favorite lottery numbers and spending time on the steps hanging with theneighborhood fellows.
Branch was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Pearlie West, Eddie Alston, Sally Ann Alston, James Alston, June Alston, Brenda Hargraves and Willie J. Alston; sons William Darnell Alston, and William Branch Alston, Jr.; daughter, Teniera Alston.
He leaves to cherish and celebrate his memory; his devoted wife, Lily M. Alston; daughters, Sheila Alston (Warsaw, Va) and Caroline Williams (Baltimore, MD); sons, James Jacobs and Marvin Jacobs (Baltimore, MD); fourteen grandchildren, leisha, Michael, Anthony, Martinez, Deonta, Shanna, Demetrix, Jamie, Kearna, Evelyn, Cierra, William Branch, 3rd, Shankia and Lindsey; Twenty nine great grandchildren; sisters, Catherine "Kitty" Simmons (Melvin) and Doretha "Resa" Hilton (Rickey); brothers, Ronnie Alston (Denise) and Walter Alston; sisters-in-laws, Maggie West and Frances Alston. There are also a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many, many friends that will forever carry his memory in their hearts
