William "Sunny" Thomas Gray
departed this life on Satur-
day, July 22, 2017 at his home. He was born to Julia Lea Gray
(Scovens) and William (Bill) Howard on September 16, 1959
in Prince George's County, Maryland. His mother later mar-
ried Robert Scovens who was a devoted stepfather to William.
The family relocated to Baltimore, Maryland in the early
1960's.
William attended Baltimore City Public Schools, where he
received his education. He met many friends during his child-
hood, of his many acquaintances he became best friends with
two of those acquaintances and remained so throughout his
lifetime. They were Earl Brown and Edward Dews.
As a young man, William (Gunny) held several jobs as a
landscaper and laborer. He was employed with the City of
Baltimore for many years until he retired due to health prob-
lems.
William enjoyed dancing, playing pool, and basketball. He
loved to be around his family and rarely missed a chance for
a get together. He loved children, and would often call them
his, even if they were not. One of his favorite nick names to
call the ladies was (Baby Love) if he liked you, and could
often be heard to say to his friends

" Shortly before his death Gunny would
often attend church with his grandfather.
William (Gunny) was preceded in death by his parents, Wil-
liam Howard, Robert and Julia Scovens; one sister, Deborah
Scovens; one nephew, Timothy Wilson; five uncles, four
aunts, his grand parents, and a cherished cousin, Marie Antoi-
nette (Pea).
He leaves to cherish his memory: his brother, Robert Scovens
Jr.; two sons, William and Terrell; two daughters, Tanyall and
Tiyanna; 5 grandchildren Tikasha, Sammy, Aayanna, Tinera
and Danielle; one niece, Shantrice Wilson; three uncles, Timo-
thy Gray (Stella) of Danville,VA, Robert Gray (Maxine) of
Baltimore, MD, and Ronald Gray (Michelle) of Baltimore, MD;
two aunts, Mrs. Rosalee Gray, and Mrs. Lucille Gray of Balti-
more, MD; three great nephews, two very special ladies, Ms.
Ulanda Waters, and Ms. Marilyn Dews; the person he called his
second mother, Mrs. Irma Dews; his step grandfather, Mr. John
Dorsey, numerous cousins, and a host of other family members,
and very dear friends.
