Obituary

On Tuesday, September 16, 2014 after a lengthy illness, William George Lloyd, affectionately known as "Papa" and "Uncle William Lloyd" was calledfrom labor to reward. He was born on February 4, 1931 to the late John and Lillian Lloyd and later, after the death of his mother at an early age, was raised by his aunt Cora Watts. He was the youngest and only boy of three siblings, Sister Elizabeth affectionately known as "Nunnie", and Edith affectionately known as "Flirt" both who preceded him in death. He was born and raised in South Baltimore and educated in the Baltimore City Public School Systems. He left school at an early age to work and help support the family. He joined the military and received an honorable discharge from the US Army in 1953, during which period he served with the 82nd Airborne in Fayetteville, NC. William met and later married the late Jean Gwendolyn Lloyd. This union lasted for over 51 years until her death in 2012. From this union came 6 children. In 1964 he began working for The General Motors Corporation until he retired after thirty years of service. During his tenure at GM he received several awards, most notably for his contribution to the design of the Fender Skirt. William accepted Christ at an early age. He later joined the Shiloh Christian Community Church where he remained afaithful servant until his illness prevent- ing him from attending. He became a member of Shiloh earlier under the leader- ship of the late Reverend George W. Baynard, then under the leadership of Reverend Jimmy C. Baldwin. During this time he held several positions, sang with the Sanctuary Choir, the Male Chorus, and later held positions on the Deacon Board, wi~h his last position being Treasurer. In April of 1972 William became a Master Mason and a member of King Solo~ man Lodge No.#3. William was out spoken and frank, but a kind and caring person with a heart of gold, a humble man who graciously bore his illness, a very social person who loved sports, namely boxing, and loved to sing. He leaves to mourn his loss: one daughter, Vanessa; five sons, Wayne, Michael, Reginald, Alan and Kevin; two daughters-in-law, Angela and Theresa; sixteen grandchildren, over 20 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Askew and Laverne Snowden, nieces, nephews, his church family, and a host of other relatives and friends.
