William McCullough, Sr., devoted husband to the late Roberta McCullough, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, great-great grandfather, our friend, advisor and mentor, was born on July 18, 1928 to the late Fred and Ethel Lumpkin McCullough. Early Friday morning on May 16, 2014, after fighting the good fight of faith, God released William from this earthly life by calling him home. William McCullough, Sr. "W.M.", as he was affectionately known by many, was reared in Spartanburg, South Carolina. One of his greatest desires was to obtain a formal education. However, after reaching the sixth grade, his father decided that since William was the oldest of his siblings, he was needed the most in helping to work the fields on the farm, thus denying him the opportunity that he earnestly desired. Nevertheless, his early relationship with God and daily talks with God, especially while sitting on the banks of the river fishing; God blessed him with what cannot be taught in any institutions of higher learning, and that was-- having good common sense. Leaving home, William came to Baltimore, Maryland, where he met and married the late Roberta Artis. Their union lasted for 54 years until her passing from this life in June 1999. Through their union, God blessed them with fifteen beautiful children; five girls and ten boys. He was an excellent provided for his wife, who never had to work, and his fifteen children. He often said "God has blessed me beyond measure." William worked over 20 years as a grinder for the American Standard Company that was once located here, in Baltimore, Maryland. He helped produce bath tubs for which many of us have seen and used over the years. Eventually the American Standard Company relocated to Kentucky, causing William to seek other alternatives to provide for his family. He decided to purchase a cab through the Yellow Cab Company and was so thankful to God, for this allowed him to be his "own boss" until his retirement in 2004. In 1996, William recommitted his life to God by being baptized in name of Jesus Christ and becoming a member of the Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ under the leadership of Elder Bruce S. Edwards until his passing. Many who met William, would remarked on how he always talked about his Lord and Savior; imparting words of wisdom and instilling inspiration along the way. Bro.
