Rebecca Johnson was born October 13, 1942 in Danville,
Virginia. He departed this life on Sunday, March 10,2019.
Odell was educated in the Virginia Public School System. He was employed
by Blind Industries, Inc., Camp Manufacturing, was a truck driver and had
many other jobs.
Odell met his soulmate Annie Lois Wilson in elementary school. They began
formally dating in high school. They married October 27, 1963. He loved
"Shorty" so much that they renewed their wedding vows and celebrated fifty
years of marriage in 2013. To this union, they were blessed with four
children: Pab, Elgin (T ojo), Lucretia and Derek. Odell was family oriented.
He loved his wife and children passionately. He was a wonderful husband and
Annie's best friend.
Odell had a uniquely warm personality. He never met a stranger that he did
not engage in conversation. He entreated any and everyone with kindness. As
a result, Odell had many friends because he showed himself friendly
(Proverbs 18:24). He was a loving brother, father, grandfather and great-
grandfather.
Odell was endowed with a special gift, a melodious VOlCe and fervor for
singing gospel music that burst forth with streams of tears rolling down his
face each time he sang, expressing his love and adoration for God. For many
years, he sang with the BW Specials. In 1979, Odell became a dedicated
member of Trinity Apostolic Faith Holiness Church, Inc. (now, Trinity-New
Birth International Christian Ministries, Inc.) under the pastorate of the late
Bishop Lois Cleveland Grant. For several decades he was a committed lead
vocalist and member of the Trinity Mass Choir, Trinity Young Adult Choir
and Male Chorus. Two of his most rousing songs were ''I'm on the Lord's
Side" and "Pass Me Not" always stirred the congregation.
Odell was preceded in death by: two brothers, Joe and Marvin;
Lillie Mae; two grandchildren, Christopher and Allen.
He leaves to cherish his memory: a devoted wife,
